Existing programs at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) can do more to support plant-based food products. To invest in the production, marketing, and processing of plant-based foods, Congress should pass the Peas, Legumes, and Nuts Today (PLANT) Act. This critical legislation would ensure that farmers and companies producing plant-based foods are eligible for USDA assistance.

If passed, the PLANT Act would:

Increase incentives for farmers producing ingredients in plant-based foods
Update the Market Access Program to encourage exports of plant-based foods
Support plant-based food manufacturing in rural communities
Create a new plant-based protein research program
Create an Office of Plant-Based Food Options and Innovative Production
